Hip Hop Collabo
About
Hip Hop Collabo is a student-run dance group rooted in street dance, hip hop culture, and hip hop music. Though primarily based on hip hop dance, our student choreographers regularly incorporate elements from various styles including jazz-funk, house, waaking, popping, krumping, and breaking. Similarly, we also draw inspiration from music genres beyond hip hop like electro-funk, rhythm and blues (R&B), soul music, and pop music. Ultimately, we come from culturally diverse backgrounds but share a uniting love for hip hop music, dance, performance, and intentional artistry. Our auditions are traditionally conducted at the beginning of the fall semester—occasionally in the spring as well—and throughout the year, we choreograph collaboratively, learn from each other, and use hip hop to cultivate social spaces. At the end of each semester, we perform for family, friends, and the Clark community with a performance extravaganza. At our core, we believe that, “Dancers aren’t made of their technique, but their passion.”
